Ann Landis, RN, BSN has agreed to volunteer her time as our church's Congregational Nurse and Director of HealthCare Ministries.  She also assists the Pastor in visiting ill members, whether at home, in the hospital, or in one of the area’s care facilities.  Ann conducts a blood F-R-E-E pressure screening from 9:30 am - 10:30am for our members on the third Sunday of each month during the Sunday school hour in Room 204.  Come on by!

The goal of Congregational Nursing is to help individuals stay well, and to create a feeling of deeper caring throughout the community.  Mathews United Methodist Church is in partnership with Self Regional Healthcare to provide this ministry to our church and outreach into the community.  A sister church, St. Mark UMC has been instrumental in helping with the funding, as well.

The Congregational Nurse recognizes the wholeness and uniqueness of each individual.  As that person, She is committed to encompassing the wholeness of each person, each family, and the community at large.   Many different ways to minister to others present themselves as we worship and fellowship together.

Ann has been serving as Mathews’ Congregational Nurse since January 2001.  She is a Registered nurse and recently graduated from the University of South Carolina – Spartanburg receiving her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing.  She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Lander University in 1985.  Since becoming a parish nurse in August of 1998, Ann has participated in additional training in association with Marquette University of Wisconsin, and has completed the Parish Nurse Institute Phases I and II.  Ann Landis has experience in medical-surgical nursing, critical care and home health.  Our Congregational Nurse also worked for a short time in Cardiac Rehab and as a Clinic Nurse at the Saluda Health Department.

Ann currently serves as a Clinical Instructor of Nursing at Piedmont Technical College, in Greenwood, South Carolina.

It is Ann's prayer that the Congregational Nursing (Healthcare) Ministry will reach out to all members of the congregation through varied opportunities such as monthly blood pressure screenings, special education programs, newsletter articles, participation in various church and community events, and through individual visits.
